The Godfather: Take One

For my first time watching The Godfather, I had no expectations. After watching it I can honestly describe it as a work of art, and that its artistic goal was certainly achieved. One of the things that stood out to me was the number of references I’ve heard before, which I had no idea originated from this movie. The parallels between the business and the family give the heads of the Corleone family enough moral leverage that you’re not rooting against them as criminals, but rooting for them as a family. The theme of family is an important one in The Godfather, and the sacrifices that the Corleone’s are willing to make for their families are the driving force of the plot.
